Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday said, according to immigration database, a total of 1,11,575 foreigners are now staying in Bangladesh legally while the number of illegal foreign nationals is 910.

Replying to a starred question from treasury bench member M Mamunur Rashid Kiron of Noakhali-3 constituency in parliament the minister gave the information.

He said the tenure of visas of 910 foreigners has expired. The list of illegal foreigners is preserved with the special branch. The law enforcement agency, including the special branch, conducts regular drives to identity illegal foreigners.

The law enforcers take immediate legal actions whenever they find the trace of any illegal foreign servicemen in the country, he added.

Replying to a scripted question from opposition bench member AKM Maidul Islam, the minister said 20,656 Indian citizens are now living in Bangladesh. Most of these Indians are investors, he added.
