Muezzin hacked dead in Jhalakathi

Jhalakathi: A muazzin was hacked to death by unknown assailants in Jhalakathi on Friday apparently in a sequel of recent killings.

The fresh victim Mohsin Hawlader, 30, was the son of Mosharraf Hossain at Dariapur village of Nabagram union of the district. Besides his muazzin’s job, he also carried passengers on his hired motorbike for payment.

Jhalakathi Police Station Officer-in-charge Mohammad Mahe Alam said, ‘Mohsin was gone missing on Thursday night after keeping his motorbike at Alamgir master’s house of the village. His family members were searching him as he didn’t return home that night. After rummaging, local people traced his dead body in a nearby bush of a house’.

Police recovered his body and sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy after preparing an inquest report, the OC added.

Mahe Alam said there were seven signs of weapon attack in different parts of his head and body and he was hacked to death.

Mohsin’s wife Liza Begum said he worked as a muazzin in a local mosque besides used to run motorbike on rent to support our family. They were taking preparations to file a case over his husband’s murder.
