Militants aim to create panic: Sholakia imam
Dhaka: Islamic scholar and Sholakia Eid Jamaat Imam Maulana Fariduddin Masud on Thursday said the consequent militant attacks were aimed to weaken the natural social resistance against militants panicking people.
‘Their aim is to weaken social resistance against extremism creating panic in people's mind,’ Masud told BSS after the deadly militant attack at the site of the country's biggest Eid jamaat at Sholakia of Kishoreganj, just ahead of the start of the congregation.
Masud urged people not to get panicked saying ‘that will benefit the militants in achieving their goal’ while ‘united social resistance was now the most crucial necessity to uproot the extremists’.
‘A united social resistance against the extremists is the most crucial need of the day,’ he said.
Simultaneously, he urged the youths, who opted for the path of terrorism to gain heaven, to quickly discard the line as it is ‘completely anti-Islamic’.
‘You are being misled, this is anti-Islamic. With all my love I urge you to discard the path of violence and extremism and return to the normal social life,’ Masud said.
Masud has been spearheading an anti-militancy campaign mobilizing Islamic scholars and imams while over one lakh of them last month issued a joint fatwa denouncing terrorism in the name of Islam calling it ‘anti-Islamic’.
He has been leading the Sholakia Eid jamaat, the biggest Eid congregation of the country, for the past several years.
