Dhaka: Declaring that businesses want Bangladesh free of terrorism and militancy, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmad on Monday said the apex business body will hold a convention against terrorism and militancy in Dhaka very soon.

Matlub Ahmad, also the chair of Nitol-Niloy Group, said this while leading a delegation of FBCCI and Kishoreganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry to meet President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban.

The FBCCI president informed the president that all chambers and businesses across the country will participate in the convention.

President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.

Abdul Matlub Ahmad apprised the President of the activities of the FBCCI and also highlighted various initiatives taken by the apex business body for the development of trade and investment across the country.

President Hamid said the role of the private sector is very important alongside the government’s for the overall socioeconomic development of the country.

He urged the business leaders to prioritise job creation in the country.

President Hamid, who himself hails from Kishoreganj, urged the FBCCI president to build industries in the Kaliachapra Mill Area.

Nitol-Niloy Group through its chairman donated a microbus to the ‘President Abdul Hamid Medical College’, handing the key to its principal Professor ANM Naushad Khan in the presence of President Hamid, who thanked Matlub.

‘It will benefit the poor patients of the haor areas,’ he noted, before urging the owners of private medical colleges and hospitals to run them with ‘service-oriented’ rather than ‘business-oriented’ mentality.
