Bogra: Rakibul Hasan Regan, arrested as a suspected militant after he suffered bullet wounds during the Kalyanpur raid in the Dhaka North city early on Tuesday, had been missing for about a year, said his mother Rokeya Akhter.

Rokeya, detained after the Kalyanpur operation, came up with the information when the police questioned her about her son on Tuesday morning.

Julhaz Kabir, sub-inspector of Bogra Sadar Police Station, said police picked up Rokeya Akhter, mother of Rakibul Hasan and a senior nurse at Nandigram Upazila Health Complex, from her residence in the afternoon. She was in police custody till filing of the report at 6:00pm on Tuesday.

Quoting Rokeya, police said Hasan, son of the late Rezaul Karim, went missing on 26 July 2015 after he had left his residence for a coaching centre. Hasan’s phone was found switched off since then.

Later, she lodged a general diary with the Sadar Police Station on 27 July 2015.

According to the GD, Hasan, the second child of Rokeya, was pious and used to offer prayers regularly. He passed SSC from Karatowa Multimedia School and took HSC examination from Government Shah Sultan College in 2015. After the HSC exam, he got admitted into a medical coaching centre.

Hasan’s mother said she had contacted police and Rapid Action Battalion with the GD copy in search of her son but could not get his whereabouts.

Rokeya also suspected that Hasan got derailed after meeting Momainul Isalm Shihab, a young man who used to live at their house as a tenant and Momainul also remained missing since then.

Earlier in the day, nine suspected militants were killed in police firing during an operation by a special team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the city’s Kalyanpur are.

Hasan, a suspected militant, got bullet injury in police firing while trying to flee the scene by jumping off from the 4th floor of the building during the drive.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
