Dhaka: Five people, including a minor girl, were killed in road accidents in Chittagong, Nagoan and Joypurhat on Tuesday.

In Chittagong, a covered van driver and his helper were killed when their vehicle crashed into a roadside tree in Jamaler Dokan area of the Mirsarai upazila in the morning.

The deceased were identified as driver Sohagh and his helper Omar Faruk, hailing from Noakhali.

Witnesses said the Chittagong-bound covered van hit the tree as its driver lost control over the steering while overtaking an oil tanker in the area around 6:30am, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

In Nagoan, two people were killed and another was injured when a tractor rammed a motorbike and a rickshaw in Muktirmore area of the district town in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as rickshaw-puller Bazlur Rahman, 40, son of Azizur Rahman of Mohanpur village in Sadar upazila, and passenger Tozaffar Hossain, 60, son of Mokkel Ali of Phulpur village of Shahjanpur upazila in Bogra district.

The soil-laden tractor hit the rickshaw and the motorbike in the area around 4:30pm, leaving rickshaw-puller dead on the spot and Tozaffar and Anwar Hossain critically injured, said Mohammad Jakirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nagoan sadar police station.

The injured were rushed to Nagoan sadar hospital where Tozaffar succumbed to his injuries.

In Joypurhat, a minor girl was crushed under the wheels of a shallow-engine-run vehicle (locally known as Bhatbhati) at Khangghor village of Panchbibi upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Maimun Nahar, 8, daughter of Sanwar Hossain, resident of Uchna village of the upazila.
