Dhaka: The Government on Thursday fixed 6,233 spots in the 11 city corporations and 53 district towns for slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain came up with the information while talking to reporters after a meeting at the secretariat, reports UNB.

The Minister said some 35-40 lakh animals would be slaughtered across the country and among those 7,16,940 animals in the city corporations during Eid.

Besides, 4,885 Imams and 12,638 butchers have been selected for slaughtering animals at 2,943 spots under the city corporations, he said.

‘We have fixed the spots for slaughtering sacrificial animals to avoid environmental and health hazards,’ said the Minister.

He also urged all to slaughter animals at the government designated places although it is not compulsory.

People will be informed about the designated spots through loudspeaker 10 days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and the authorities concerned of the city corporations have been asked to take necessary steps for informing it through SMS service two weeks ahead, said Mosharraf.

The authorities concerned of the city corporations and the municipalities have been asked to open a control room for monitoring the slaughtering process and ensuring removal of wastes, he said.

Meanwhile, South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said the wastes of sacrificial animals will be removed within 48-72 hours from the south part of the city.

Besides, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq said the wastes of sacrificial animals will be removed from the city immediately like the previous year. He also urged people to refrain from slaughtering animals on roads.

Both the two Dhaka City corporation mayors, Chittagong city corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and mayors and acting mayors of all other city corporations attended meeting.
