Fire spreads again at Bashundhara City shopping centre

Dhaka: Fire spread again at the Bashundhara City shopping centre at about 10:00pm on Sunday.

Firefighters at about 8:50pm said the fire that broke out at about 11:00am were almost controlled.

Fire broke out again at the back side of the sixth floor when the firefighters were about to leave the place, said a witness.

A fire broke out on Level-6 of Bashundhara City shopping centre, a mega shopping complex, in Panthapath area of Dhaka on Sunday morning.

Fire service Director General Ali Ahammed Khan said the fire originated at a showroom of Liberty shoes on that building at about 11:30am.

Fire service official Ataur Rahman said twenty fire fighters units are working to douse the flames.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

Earlier, on 13 March 2009, seven employees of Bashundhara mall were died and around 50 others were injured as fire engulfed the shopping mall.

The 22 story Basundhara City Complex in Dhaka has more than 2,000 shops and restaurants.
