Dhaka: Condemning the sexual assaults on women by rowdy men during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on the Dhaka University campus, Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Annisul Huq on Saturday said he has a plan to bring the entire city under CCTV surveillance if he is elected.

‘I urge the government to give exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in the TSC sexual assault, no matter who they are. I’ve a plan to bring the entire city under CCTV surveillance… I’ll bring Dhaka under tight security within two years so that no criminal could go untraced,’ he said.

Annisul Huq, a mayoral candidate of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections, was talking to reporters while conducting electioneering in the city’s Mirpur area.

‘We want a safe city for women…we never want the women to come under such sexual assault,’ the former FBCCI president said.

Flanked by local Awami League MP Elias Uddin Mollah and other party leaders and activists, Annisul Huq started his Saturday’s election campaign at Alugdi Bazar of Mirpur section-12 at 9:30am and begged votes at different places, including Extension Pallabi, Duaripara, Rupnagar and Mirpur section-2.

Annisul sought votes assuring people of solving the common problems of the city if they elect him on 28 April.

During the campaign, his supporters chanted slogans and distributed leaflets seeking votes in favour of him.

Besides, Annisul Huq shared his light moments with students of Rupnagar Government High School.
