Hartal protesting attack on Khaleda Zia

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday called countrywide hartal for Wednesday and protests on Tuesday protesting the attack on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed announced this at a press briefing in Dhaka on Monday night.
Moudud at the briefing at the party office at Naya Paltan denounced the attack on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade at Kawran Bazar by ruling party activists.
Khaleda Zia was leading an electoral canvass to drum up support for Adarsha Dhaka Andolan mayoral candidate Tabith Awal.
Moudud Ahmed also said that Dhaka and Chittagong cities will be excluded from the hartal areas.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack at Kawran Bazar in Dhaka on Monday during her city election canvass for the party-backed mayoral candidate Tabith Awal.
When the motorcade reached the Petrobangla building, a group of young persons attacked her motorcade at about 6:00pm.
The attackers swooped on the vehicles shouting 'Joy Bangla' slogans. They broke several vehicles with wooden sticks.
Earlier on Monday Awami league joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said Awami League leaders and activists will take over the BNP leader during her electoral canvass.
