Settlers’ shutdown underway in Khagrachhari
Khagrachhari: The day-long hartal, enforced by five Bangali settlers’ organisations demanding revocation of the draft Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Land Dispute Resolution Commission (Amendment) Act, is underway peacefully in the district, excluding Sadar upazila, on Thursday.
On 1 August, the cabinet approved the draft of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission (Amendment) Act curtailing the discretionary power of the commission’s chairman in decision making, aiming to put an end to land disputes in the CHT.
