100-year-old Dhalapahar dead

Bagerhat: Dhalapahar, the 100-year-old crocodile in the pond of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) shrine in Bagerhat, has died.
The 9 feet large reptile was found floating in the pond on Thursday morning. It was suspected that it died some time on Wednesday.
On information, the Bagerhat deputy commissioner, police and officials of the Sundarbans and livestock departments visited the shrine. A four-member medical board conducted autopsy on the crocodile’s body.
District livestock officer Sukhendra Shekar Gain said they assumed that the crocodile died of excessive fat it gained due to overeating.
Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) dug the large pond on a 300-acre of land about 600 years ago. He reared two crocodiles, Kalapahar and Dhalapahar, in the pond.
Local people hold the belief that one’s dreams come true if one feed these crocodiles.
