SUST teachers, students protest attack on minorities

Sylhet: A section of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) teachers and students formed a human chain on Tuesday on the campus protesting the recent worldwide attacks on minority communities.

Under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parshad’, SUST unit, they formed the human chain in front of the Central Library at about 1:00pm where teachers, students, employees of the university from various departments took part.

Speakers at the human chain said such sectarian attacks were not expected. The attacks on the minorities in the world including Bangladesh are increasing in recent days causing damage to lives and wealth.

The main principle of Liberation War was a liberal country and this would become threatened if the perpetrators can escape trial, they observed.  

They urged proper security of the countrymen, including religious minorities and immediate trail and exemplary punishment of culprits.

Professor Narayan Saha, Director of Modern Language Institute Professor Himadri Sekhar Roy, cultural activist Jahangir Alam Noman, Sakhawat Hossai and Rana Protap Hera spoke among others at that time.
