Dhaka: Left-leaning students’ organisations on Tuesday announced to lay siege to the Home Ministry on 20 May if their five-point demands in connection with the DU sexual assault incident are not met within a week.

The demands include the arrest and punishment of those responsible for sexual harassment of women on Dhaka University campus during Bangla New Year celebrations on 14 April and the resignation of DU proctor Amzad Ali.

Left-leaning student bodies under the banner of Progotoshil Chhatra Jote and Samrajyabad Birodhi Chhatra Oikya announced the programme at a press briefing at Modhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Tuesday.

The leaders of the organisations also announced to hold a solidarity rally at Shahbagh intersection on 16 May.

Activists of Bangladesh Students Union enforced a day-long strike on the campus on Tuesday in protest against brutal police assault on demonstrators who were protesting the DU sexual assault incident near the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on Sunday.
