Gaibandha transport owners, workers enforce indefinite strike
Gaibandha: Transport owners and workers of Gaibandha went on an indefinite strike on Wednesday morning protesting an attack on the transport workers on 14 December.
Abdul Rashid Sarkar, president of motor vehicle workers’ association, announced the strike at a press briefing on Monday.
No auto-rickshaws, light vehicles, long and short route buses was seen to plying the roads till the filing of this report at about 9:10am.
On 13 December, eight people were injured in a clash between two groups of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce in the district town.
Later, a group of miscreants carried out an attack on the staffs of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ and vandalised the bus counter.
Following the incident, Moktadir Rahman Mithu, president of the district’s Tank-lorry Association, filed a case against six people with Gaibandha Police Station in this connection.
The transport owners and workers called the strike demanding arrest of the accused.
