Pabna: Nizam Uddin, poor father of slain militant leader Nurul Islam Fahad alias Marzan, on Friday demanded trial of those who took his son to the wrong path.

"I demand that those who took my son to the wrong path be tried," he said while talking to reporters at his house of Afuria village under Hamayetpur union in Sadar upazila.

Marzan, believed to be the mastermind of the Gulshan terror attack, and his close associate Saddam were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the capital's Mohammadpur area early Friday.

Marzan's father said they came to know from television news that their son was killed in a gunfight in Dhaka.

His son had been known as a good boy to the villagers, he claimed.

Mentioning that they have no enough money to bear the expenses for bringing the body, he said if the government sends the body to their house, they will bury him.

Marzan's mother Salma Khatun said she will have a last glimpse of her son if the government sends his body to their house.

Asked about whereabouts of Marzan's wife, Salma said they know nothing about her location.

Marzan and Saddam, who is the chargesheeted accused in the case filed over the killing of Japanese citizen Hoshi Kunio, were killed in the gunfight in Mohammadpur Beribadh area early in the morning.

The bodies were kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, said police.

According to the CTTC unit, Marzan, said to be the 'operational commander' of Neo-JMB, is one of the suspected masterminds of the recent militant attacks in the country and his name surfaced during the investigation into the Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack.

Marzan was a 2nd year student of Arabic Department of Chittagong University under academic session of 2012-13. He was known as Fahad on the campus.

He, however, did not appear at the year final examination and remained missing since 2015.
