Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, the newly elected mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), took office on Monday.
Elected to the post for the second consecutive time, the NCC mayor joined the office at about 11:15am.
Earlier, she was greeted by hundreds of supporters on her way to the NCC building from her residence in the city.
Flanked by hundreds of supporters, Ivy went to Nagar Bhaban on foot from her residence at Dehabhog area.
Ivy sought assistance from the people for her future undertakings as the city’s mayor.
‘I promise I will serve the people of Narayanganj until the last drop of blood. Alhough my father was involved in Awami League’s politics, he worked for keeping himself above of party politics and opinions. I also want to follow my father’, the newly elected mayor said.
‘I’ll work for the people in my tenure without fearing anybody. Shitalakhya and Buriganga will be connected. I’ll built parks and playing grounds.’
‘Now the Nagarbhaban is open for all. There will be no niche for tender-manipulation, politicisation and nepotism here’, said Ivy, who set a record becoming the country’s first female city mayor after she won the 2011 NCC election.
‘I’ll continue my fight against the unjust and misrule as I did in the past. I’ll serve all going beyond political affiliation and views as people irrespective of their political views and creeds voted for me. I’m the mayor for all’, she said.
Ivy was re-elected as mayor of Narayanganj in an election held on December 22 last.
