2 killed, 9 hurt in road accidents

Dhaka: Two people were killed and nine others, including six policemen, injured in separate road accidents in Khulna, Narayanganj and Barisal on Friday.

Khulna:

In Khulna, an easy-bike driver was killed and two people were injured in a collision between a truck and a human hauler (locally known as easy-bike) at Shantidham intersection of the city in the morning.

The deceased was Asim, the driver of the human-hauler.

Police said the truck collided with the easy-bike in the area at about 9:00am, leaving Asim dead on the spot and two passengers injured. The injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Khulna police officer-in-charge Sukumar Biswas confirmed the accident.

Narayanganj:

A minor boy was killed as a truck rammed his bicycle in Adamjee Sumilpara area of Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Pranta, son of Shahjahan from Adamjee Sumilpara Bihari Colony.

The Narayanganj-bound truck crashed into the bicycle of the child at Shimrail intersection in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot, said Alauddin Siddhirganj police officer-in-charge.

Police arrested the driver and seized the truck.

Barisal:

In Barisal, six policemen and a Barisal branch official of Bangladesh Bank were injured after a minibus used for transferring cash collided with a sand-laden truck at Ichhakathi on the outskirts of the city in the morning.

Satyendranath Roy, assistant manager of the local branch central bank, said he along with six policemen escorting the microbus was going to Shariatpur treasury branch of Sonali Bank with the cash.

Suddenly, a truck crashed into the microbus in front of the office of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police on Barisal-Dhaka highway around 11am, he said, adding that he and the policemen sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Following the accident, the planned trip was cancelled and the cash was preserved at the local branch vault of the central bank.

DIG of Barisal Range Humayun Kabir said the injured policemen were given first aid and the truck was seized.
