Court rejects Fakhrul’s bail plea, police custody

Dhaka: A Dhaka court refused the bail petition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three sabotage cases lodged against him.
The court also rejected police’s plea seeking 30 days for questioning Mirza Fakhrul in the cases, and ordered to conduct the questioning session at the jail gate.
After a hearing, Dhaka metropolitan chief magistrate Ashok Kumar Datta’s court issued the orders on Wednesday morning.
Lawyer Borhan Ahmed and Masud Ahmed joined the hearing on behalf of Mirza Fakhrul while Tapash Kumar Paul was the prosecution lawyer.
On 4 January, a case was filed against Mirza Fakhrul with Paltan police in bombing and vandalism charges.
Later, on 6 January, police arrested Fakhrul from Jatiya Press Club.
