Judiciary’s dispute with executive to go soon: Chief Justice
Dhaka: Chief Justice SK Sinha on Tuesday hoped that the judiciary’s dispute with the government over the publication of gazette on the disciplinary and conduct rules for judicial officers will be removed soon.
The Chief Justice came up with the optimism in a message issued marking his completion of two years in office as the county’s 21st Chief Justice.
“There remains the possibility of preventing subordinate court judges from independently running judicial activities if the executive has the scope of interfering in their disciplinary issue,” he said.
SK Sinha also said the objectives of the separation of the judiciary will be implemented if there are independent disciplinary and conduct rules for judges.
Noting that the judiciary does not interfere in the internal affairs of the two other organs of the state going beyond its limit, he hoped that there will be no interference in the judiciary, too.
The Chief Justice also said the criminals cannot get away with crimes no matter how big they are.
Referring to Wednesday’s verdict in the sensational seven-murder cases of Narayanganj where 26 people, including three sacked Rab officials, were sentenced to death and nine others jailed for different terms, he said the quick disposal of the cases will boost people’s confidence in the judiciary.
Terming the backlog of cases as the main challenge of the judiciary, the Chief Justice blamed it on the opaqueness of the existing laws.
