5 killed in road accidents
At least five people were killed and seven injured in separate road accidents in Barisal, Rangpur and Jessore on Sunday.
In Barisal, two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident at Rahmatpur on the Barisal-Dhaka Highway in the district on Sunday.
The victims were Al Amin Sardar, son of Shamsul Haque Sardar of Atipara village under Uzirpur upazila and Md. Sajal Sardar, son A. Lal Sardar of the same village.
Al Amin was a second-year-student of BN Khan Degree College, Uzirpur and Md. Sajal passed SSC examination this year.
Airport Police Station officer-in-charge Md. Motiur Rahman said a Faridpur-bound cattle loaded truck collided head-on with a motorcycle in the area at about 11:30am. As a result, the motorcyclists died on the spot.
Driver and helper managed to escape from the spot along with their truck.
Police recovered the bodies and sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Rangpu, a night coach passenger was killed and six others were injured in a road accident at Barodorga point on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway at Pirganj this morning, police sources said.
The deceased were Nurun Nabi, son of Ayub Ali of Kamarpara area in the Rangpur city.
The accident occurred when a Rangpur bound night coach Hanif Enterprise from Dhaka plunged into the ditch after hitting a roadside tree as the sleepy driver lost control over the steering at 4:30am.
Police rescued the body and sent them to Pirganj Upazila Heath Complex.
Barodorga Highway Police Camp sergeant Nazmul Haque Mandal said a case was filed in this connection with Pirganj Police Station.
In Jessore, two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident at Aladipur at Bagarpara on Sunday.
The deceased were Rafiq and Khair Biswas.
Bagarpara Police Station officer-in-charge Kayum Sardar said the accident took place when their bike suddenly lost control over its steering and dashed a roadside tree while they were going to Barra at Bagarpara from Jessore Sadar in this morning.
Following the accident, Khair Biswas died on the spot and Rafiq succumbed to his injuries at Jessore General Hospital.
