Man killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’ with RAB

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on the Jessore-Khulna Highway in Murali rail crossing area in Jessore early on Sunday.
The deceased is Raju alias Bhaipo Raju, a resident of Garikhana area of the district town.
Jessore RAB-6 commanding officer Major Ashraf Uddin said a team of the elite force had arrested Raju from Garikhana area at about 9:00 am on Saturday, said a UNB news.
Following Raju’s statement, the elite force launched a drive in the area to arrest his associates at about 1.00 am.
Sensing presence of the RAB members, the associates of Raju who gathered in the area for carrying out sabotage, opened fire on them, prompting the elite force to fire back, triggering a gunfight, leaving Raju injured with bullets.
Later Raju was rushed to Jessore 250-Bed Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The force recovered a foreign-made revolver, a pistol, two sharp weapons and some drugs from the spot.
Raju was wanted in several cases, including for murder, added the RAB commanding officer.
