Dhaka: The social visit of a young woman to her relative’s house in the city’s Rampura area proved fatal to her as she was gang-raped by miscreants soon after her arrival on Friday.

The matter came to light on Saturday when the victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical test.

DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Mozammel Haque said the 18-year-old woman along with her husband M Momin came to the house of their relative Halima Begum in West Rampura from Chittagong on Friday morning.

A group of 10-12 local miscreants, including Sujon, Moin, Arif and Farhad, stormed into the house of Halima around 9:30am and snatched Tk 3,000 from Momin after beating him. Halima was outside the house at that time.

The culprits also forced Momin to transfer Tk 4,000 from his bKash wallet to one of their accounts.

Sensing something fishy, neighbours informed Halima of the incident. She then rushed to the house.

However, the gangsters confined Halima to a bathroom and four of them violated Momin’s wife in turns.

The criminals fled the scene before police reached the spot, Mozammel Haque added.

Victim’s husband filed a case with Rampura Police Station in this connection.
