Road accidents

8 killed, 14 injured countrywide

Road accidents killed a total of 8 people across the country on Wednesday leaving about 14 more persons injured. Reports from different agencies said that 3 people died in Tangail, 3 in Sirajganj, and 2 others died in Madaripur from the early hours of Wednesday to the evening.

Tangail truck plunge kills 3

Three people were killed and another was injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Achhimtala on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur early on Wednesday.

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Gorai Highway police officer-in-charge Humayun Kabir said a Sirajganj-bound CI sheet-laden truck from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch in the area after its driver lost control over the steering at about 5:00am, leaving three people dead on the spot and one injured.

The injured was admitted to Mirzapur Kumudini Medical College Hospital.

2 killed in Madaripur road crash

In Madaripur two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in Matbarerchar area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Shibchar on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were Mokshed Bapari, 45, and Kasem Choukidar, 60, of the same area.

Police said the accident occurred when a pickup van collided head-on with a Nasimon (locally made utility vehicle) in the area at about 8:00am, leaving a Nasimon passenger Mokshed dead on the spot and four others injured.

Kasem died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

The injured were admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

Sirajganj road crashes kill 3

Three people were killed and ten others injured in separate accidents in the district today.

A woman was killed and three others were injured when a pickup van collided head-on with a CNG run auto rickshaw at Mofij crossing area under Kamarkhand upazila this noon.

The deceased was Manikjan Begum, 45, wife of Sobhan Ali of Telkupi village under Salonga upazila of the district.

In another incident, a man was killed and seven others were injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch on Banpara-Hartikumrul highway under Tarash upazila, police said.

The deceased was Sabed Hasan from Fulchar area of Natore. The injured were sent to different hospitals.

Besides, a paddy trader was electrocuted as he came into contact with a live electric wire in his own shop at Dahakula Bazaar under Ullapara upazila of the district.

The victim was Sirajul Islam, 45, a resident of the same area.
