Dhaka: The class IV government employees on Friday demanded that the minimum basic salary should be fixed at Tk 16,000 instead of Tk 8,250 in the pay scale.

Bangladesh Class IV Government Employees Association at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday.

Terming the proposed pay scale discriminatory, acting president of the association Aminur Rahman said the difference between scales of officers is in between Tk 5,000 to 10,000, whereas the gap between the scales of employees is only few hundred.

‘The proposed scale will bring no benefit to the class IV employees and it will be impossible to live a minimum decent life with six family members with the salary structure,’ he said.

Additional secretary general Md Abul Hossain said we pressed our demand to the Finance Minister and the Minister also assured us to settle the issue.

They also urged the government for continuation of timescale and 100 percent selection grade for the low-tier public servants who have limited scopes for promotions.

The association leaders also threatened that they would go for tougher movement if their demand is not met immediately.

Among others, secretary general of the association Matiur Rahman and joint secretary general Nur Alam were present.
