Cox’s Bazar: Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) yet to return Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) Nayek Abdur Razzak six days after he was picked up by Myanmar army on Wednesday from the River Naf.

On 20 June, a photo of Razzak showing him handcuffed was published in Myanmar media. The photo went viral on the social media.

Earlier, the country was agreed to return the BGB man.

BGB Teknaf Battalion 42 commander lieutenant colonel Abujar Al Jahid said BGB protested against Myanmar’s faults through written statement. He said the officials of foreign ministry are handling the issue.

BGB said they called BGP for a flag meeting immediately after BGP men picked up Nayek Abur Razzak on 17 June. The meeting was scheduled to be held at a Teknaf land port rest house. Later BGP cancelled the meeting showing the disapproval of the higher authorities as the reason. BGB asked Myanmar for a flag meeting several times but the neighbouring country did not show interest in this regard.

Earlier, on Friday Myanmar showed positive response about sending back Abdur Razzak during a flag meeting on returning 37 Bangladeshi smuggling victims.

On 17 June BGP opened fire on a BGB patrol boat in the River Naf in Cox’s Bazar which was later described by Bangladesh as ‘misunderstanding’.

Another BGB man, Biplob Kumar, received bullet injury in the firing.

Earlier on 28 May in 2014, the Myanmar border guards shot and killed BGB Nayek M Mizanur Rahman at Naikhanchori on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border without any provocation.
