Khaleda Zia in front Moudud's 'house'
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday met her party leader Moudud Ahmed in front his Gulshan house from where he was evicted by Rajdhahi Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
After joining an iftar party hosted by Association of Engineers, Bangladesh at Bashundhara International Convention Centre, Khaleda appeared in front of the house where Moudud was standing at about 7:45pm.
Khaleda Zia talked to Moudud for a while over there.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, told Khaleda Zia how his valuables and household appliances were removed from the house without any prior notice.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, vice chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were present.
Earlier in the day, Rajuk took over BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed's Gulshan house following a court order.
On Sunday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed two petitions filed seeking a review against the SC verdict that scrapped Moudud's possession of a house at holding No 159 in Gulshan-2 area of the capital.
Later, talking to reporters, Fakhrul said the government has unlawfully evicted Moudud from his house only to harass him. "He was driven out of political vengeance as he is a senior BNP leader."
He said the government did not give the BNP leader minimum time to shift his valuables and household appliances." He (Moudud) has to take 22 tablets and lifesaving drugs every day as he is very sick. He even couldn't take the medicine from the house."
Fakhrul said the government did not show minimum curtsey to Moudud who was once vice president, prime mister and minister.
He said legal steps will be taken against the government's move. "We strongly condemn and protest the incident. We'll face such incidents politically in the future."
As journalists asked Moudud where his valuables have been kept, he said those were taken in front of his a nearby flat. "They've kept those on trucks. No one is here to take those up."
He said many valuables and appliances containing the memoires of his two late sons were damaged.
The BNP leader said Rajuk demonstrated a despotic attitude by evicting him without any notice.
