Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday said Awami League is unable to realise that its boat has already sunk due to the current government's 'misrule and failure' to run the country.

"You (PM) are going to different places in helicopters in the name of inaugurating projects. What're you exactly inaugurating as you're seeking votes for boat without realising that it has already sunk. You won't be able to salvage it with thousands of people's efforts," she said.

The BNP chief came up with remarks while speaking at an ifatr party arranged by Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) at Emmanuelle's Convention Center at Gulshan.

The former prime minister warned the ruling party that its alliance partners will neither be able to do anything for the country nor for Awami League.

She renewed her party's demand for holding the next election under an election-time neutral and supportive government to 'restore' democracy in the country. "No election will be allowed to be held under Hasina, and she must quit for holding an inclusive election."

Khaleda Zia said her party will join the next polls under a 'supportive' government. "We'll implement our Vision 2030 and all other promises by winning election."

She voiced concern that the homebound people are going through immense sufferings due to rundown roads and highways.

The BNP chief said no effective step is in sight by the government to stand besides landslide victims and rehabilitate them in Rangamati and Bandarban.

She also criticised the Prime Minister for staying abroad when the country faced a serious natural disaster. "As she is AL's Prime Minister, not people's one, she is busy touring aboard instead of standing by people."

Khaleda Zia also questioned how the Prime Minister left the country after knowing that severe landslides hit the hill districts. "Is it her sense of responsibility to people? She may shed crocodile tears now returning home."

Khaleda Zia also expressed her anger over the soaring prices of essentials and rice amid the hike of gas and power tariffs.

The top leaders of BNP and the 20-party alliance joined the ifatr party.
