Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated

Dhaka: Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated in Bangladesh on Monday amid much enthusiasm and religious fervour.

The celebrations began with the offering of Eid prayers at mosques and eidgahs all over the country in the morning.

President Abdul Hamid along with hundreds of people from all walks of life offered his Eid prayers at the National Eidgah in the capital held at 8:30 am.

Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mizanur Rahman conducted the Eid prayers.

A special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for peace, progress and welfare of the country and its people and wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah.

Meanwhile, Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj and Gor-e-Shaheed Baro Maidan in the district town of Dinajpur hosted the two largest Eid congregations with the participation of over 2 lakh devotees in both cases.

Eid congregations were also held in eidgahs, mosques and open spaces throughout the country.

In a serene show of unity, fraternity and equality, people embraced and greeted each others after the prayers.

The national flag was hoisted atop government and non-government office.

The main city streets and road islands were decorated with the national flag and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic.

Television channels and radio stations aired special programmes on the occasion.

Special diets were served in hospitals, jails, government child families, Chotomoni Nibash, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, vagrant welfare and destitute welfare centres.

President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom hosted a reception to senior government officials, city elite and diplomats at Bangabhaban.

The Prime Minister exchanged Eid greetings with a cross-section of people, party leaders and workers and professionals at her official residence Ganobhaban.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia exchanged eid greetings with eminent citizens, people from all walks of life and foreign diplomats at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
