Savar: A man gouged out the eyes of his wife following an altercation over Eid shopping at Kalma village in Savar upazila in the outskirts of the capital on Friday.

Locals said Robiul Islam, 30, a resident of area, gouged out the eyes of his wife after beating her up brutally over Eid shopping at their house on Friday morning.

As the neighbours sensed the ordeal the woman was going through at the hands of her husband, they rushed to the house and rescued her.

The injured was rushed to an eye hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area.

Later, police also arrested the victim’s husband.

Savar Model Police officer-in-charge SM Mamruzzaman confirmed the incident.

However, no case has been filed yet in this connection.
