Eid-ul-Fitr today
Dhaka: The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims ending Ramadan fasting, is being celebrated across the country on Saturday, as the Shawal moon was sighted on Friday.
The National Moon Sighting Committee held a meeting on Friday evening to decide on the appearance of the Shawal moon after reviewing reports from different parts of the country.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted the countrymen and the Muslims across the world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In separate messages, they wished peace, progress and prosperity for all.
All preparations for holding the Eid congregations have already been completed across the country.
Three-day public holiday began from Friday on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The government has planned elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and in a smooth manner.
National flags have been hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and other important establishments.
National flags and flags inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’ are installed at important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city.
Besides, designated government offices and other establishments would be illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes and newspapers have published supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Improved diets will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages.
The day will be observed in Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.
The main Eid congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8:30am.
Five Eid jamaats will be held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque - at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and 10:45am.
Law enforcement agencies, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, will ensure security in and around the main Eid congregation.
Dhaka North and South City Corporations will arrange 379 more Eid congregations between 7:00am and 11:00am in the city.
Two Eid congregations will be held at Dhaka University Central Mosque and one at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 8:00am.
The country's largest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakia in Kishorganj. All preparations have been completed for Eid jamaat.
Divisional, district and upazila administrations and local government bodies have taken preparations in their respective areas to observe the Eid-ul-Fitr.
The law enforcers have taken tight security measures across the country marking the Eid festival.
