Eminent personalities for constitutional reform
Dhaka: Eminent personalities of the country on Tuesday suggested formation of a new commission for reformation of the constitution.
They made the suggestion at a discussion organised by the Concerned Civil Society at the Brac Inn centre in Dhaka.
The speakers said an artificial democracy is prevailing now in the country.
In the discussion titled Control and Balance of Power for Full Democracy, Former Chief Election Commissioner and convenor of the Concerned Civil Society ATM Shamsul Huda said ‘Electoral democracy is the first stage of Full democracy. But whoever comes into power, that government works only to prolong their ruling period.’
Constitution specialist Dr Shahdin Malik said, ‘There is no need of the President post as the Prime Minister retains huge power to exercise in all sectors.’
Political scientist Rawnak Jahan said, ‘We have experienced that whoever is in the opposition, do politics in streets, not in parliament. They are not doing their duties properly whom we are bestowing power. That has to be changed first.’
