Dhaka: Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front on Friday urged the country’s people to be vocal against the ‘torture on Hindus and grabbing of their property’.

The front leaders came up with the demand at a human chain formed in front of the Jatiya Press Club. The programme was arranged on the occasion of Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna.

Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindus, will be celebrated in the country on Saturday with due festivity and religious fervour.

The leaders and activists of the front holding banners and placards with slogans ‘Stop grabbing the property and temples of Hindus and revoke the Vested Property Act’ joined the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, former junior minister Goutam Chakrabarty, convener of the front, said, ‘Our temples are being grabbed while our mothers and sisters being repressed and harassed under the ruling party’s patronage. But, we’re getting neither justice nor getting rid of such incidents. We call upon all, including the Muslims, to raise their voice against the repression on us and capturing of our property.’

Another ex-junior minister and adviser of the front, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, said the members of Hindu, Buddhist and Christian are being subjected to injustice and persecution.

He alleged that many members of the Hindu community are abandoning their homes and migrating to India facing unbearable repression on them.

‘We see Hindus are going to Indian regularly losing their homesteads and property. A dreadful situation will be created in the country if it continues,’ he observed.

Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front leaders, including Dhaka University Professor Sukomal Barua, Jounta Kunda, Manik Lal Gosh, Sushil Barua and Miltan Buddha, spoke at the programme.
