Women community policing can curb social crimes

Rangpur: Members of the women community policing forum can effectively bridge police-people on mutual trust in strengthening community policing activities to curb social crimes, prevent drug abuse and violence against women.

The opinion came at the concluding ceremony of a two-day workshop organised for members of Pairaband Women Community Policing Forum (PWCPF) at Begum Rokeya Memorial Centre auditorium at Rangpur’s Mithapukur on Thursday afternoon, said a BSS report.

The district police under Police Reform Project (PRF) in association with Mithapukur Upazila Community Policing Forum assisted in arranging the workshop participated by 135 female members of PWCPF from all nine wards under Pairaband union.

Presided over by Chairman of Pairaband union parishad Alhaj Rezaul Islam Reza, Additional Superintendent of Police Joynal Abedin addressed the concluding ceremony of the workshop as the chief guest.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Bakar Siddique, Officer-in-Charge of Mithapukur Thana Humayun Kabir and Member-secretary of Mithapukur Upazila Community Policing Forum Pradip Kumar Goswami spoke as special guests.

The speakers narrated women repression, domestic violence against women, child marriage, dowry, drug abuse, sexual harassments and social crimes and role of the members of women community policing forum in curbing these curses.

Throwing light on the objectives of women community policing, the chief guest hoped the newly launched PWCPF would play vital role in reducing social crimes, curses, superstitions, eve-teasing, drug abuse and settling petty social crimes locally to help maintain law and order.

Narrating the tremendous success achieved by the country’s women community in every sector, he said members of the women community policing forum would play pioneering role and contribute equally side by side with males to further reduce crimes.

He asked the common people from all walks in life to come forward and work unitedly with police through building mutual trust, partnership and information sharing for preventing social crimes to establish peace in every sector of the society.

It may be mentioned here the country’s first ever ‘Pairaband Women Community Policing Forum’ began its journey from Pairaband village, birthplace of pioneer of women renaissance Begum Rokeya, here from October 31 last.
