Dhaka: Popular Bangladeshi film actress Parveen Sultana Diti was admitted to a Dhaka hospital after her return in Bangladesh from Chennai, India.

Diti returned home, along with her daughter Lamia Chowdhury and son Shafayat Chowdhury, after being treated at the Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) at Chennai in India at about 4:30pm on Friday.

Diti was suffering from brain tumour and went under an operation at MIOT on 29 July. She again became ill after her return to Bangladesh and in November again went under an operation in India. But her physical condition deteriorated recently and she was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the MIOT.

Bangladesh Film Artist Association general secretary Amit Hasan said Diti was admitted to United Hospital Dhaka under a specialist physician.

Bangladesh Film Director Association secretary general Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar told NTV Online, ‘We can do nothing for her without pray. Diti will be kept in hospital as she needs to keep under constant supervision of a doctor.’

Celebrity actress Parveen Sultana Diti is renowned in the Bangladeshi film industry for her eternal beauty and versatile talent. Behind her tender appearance and bold persona, she is suffering from cancer. She developed a brain tumor on the left side of her brain, which was shortly removed by operation in Chennai.

Earlier on 4 January, a recent heartbreaking Facebook post by her daughter Lamia revealed that Diti was dying.

She writes, ‘She's dying. There's nothing else doctors can do for her. Now she has developed secondary Parkinsons disease from radiation side effects. Her cancer is not going to kill her. Her tumor is not back. The radiation is what did this to her.’

Lamia does not want her mother to spend her life like a lab rat. She posts, ‘I will not pray for her recovery anymore and if you are praying then please pray for a quick and easy departure for her. If God has mercy he will do the kind thing and end her suffering fast. At some point we need to understand life is a boon for the healthy and a curse on those suffering.’

Hours later, in a second post Lamia posts a picture of Diti collecting her hair (that is falling due to the severe chemotherapy) in a bag, saying she would save it to make a pair of wigs-one for herself and another for her balding friend.

Lamia expresses her amazement at the strength of her mother saying, ‘Like gods true soldier she faithfully kept marching forward, ready to face any adversity, without complaint. Fearless. She never felt sorry for herself. Her optimism by turns astounded, inspired and sometimes disgusted me. That is who she has been her whole life. Undefeatable.’
