‘Nayak Raj’ turns 75

Bangladesh’s first bona fide film-star Razzak, affectionately called ‘Nayak Raj’ has turned 75 today (23 January).

A three-day special screening festival is currently underway on a private television channel to celebrate the 75th birthday of.

Organised by Channel-i, the celebration started on Thursday and will continue till Saturday by showcasing some of his best films and arranging special programmes where he will be honoured in ways.

Prime Minister Sehikh Hasina greeted the actor as he cut a cake at Channel-i and the programme was telecast live. Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, special assistant to the Prime Minister, attended the programme and conveyed greetings to the hero on behalf of the head of the government.

Born in 1942 in Kolkata, Razzak has starred in over 300 Bengali and Urdu films from a career that started in the early 1960s.

His first big break came from Zahir Raihan’s ‘Behula’, which brought him stardom.

He won the national film awards five times for Best Actor, alongside numerous other awards.

In 2015, the government honoured him with the Independence Award for his contributions to the Bangladeshi films.
