‘Baba Asben’, a teledrama that was telecast as Victory Day drama on NTV in 2018, was screened at this year’s Charuneedam Kahinichitra Utshab. The drama was screened at Public Library auditorium yesterday (3 April) evening.

Scripted by Anisul Hoque, the drama was directed by Habib Shakil. The casts of the drama included Mehazabien Chowdhury, Aruna Biswas, ATM Russel, masum Bashar, Joyee and Ema among others.

Mostaq Morshed was in-charge of camera while Rashed Rabbi was the editor. The drama was produced by Black & White and Kazi Riton was the producer.

Producer Kazi Riton is elated as the drama was screened at Charuneedam Kahinichitra Utshab.

‘I’m grateful to NTV’s Head of Programme Mostafa Kamal sir and NTV’s Assistant General Manager (Programme) Alfred Khokon because the drama was telecasted on NTV and the viewers liked the drama.’

The storyline of ‘Baba Asben’ revolves around a girl and what happened to her after she was rescued from a camp of Pakistani occupational army after the War of Independence ended. Named ‘Asha’, the girl is the symbol of all women who were violated and abused during the Liberation War. Asha, sheltered in an ashram, tried to recollect her past. The leader of the ashram stands beside the girls who have been rescued from army camps and are brought there. Like Asha, there are others girls in the ashram. Freedom fighter Yusuf was the person who rescued Asha and took the senseless girl to a hospital. Asha was brought to the ashram after she regained her sense at the hospital. Gradually Asha started recollecting her memories. She could remember everything — about her family, parents and siblings. A letter was sent to the address she mentioned as her home. Since then Asha has been waiting for her father. How will Asha’s family and the society of a post-war country accept girls like Asha? Will Asha’s father be able to take his daughter back to the village?
