3rd Tareque Masud festival begins tomorrow
On 12 and 13 March, the third edition of the Tareque Masud Festival will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The Festival is organised by the Tareque Masud Memorial Trust in collaboration with Moviyana Film Society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, says a press release.
On 13 March at 6:00pm, the screening and awards ceremony of the Tareque Masud Young Filmmakers’ Competition will be held at the National Art Plaza auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This year’s theme is ‘Nay Bichar Amar Odhikar’ (Justice is My Right). Young filmmakers between the ages of 16 and 25 from around the country have submitted their films, among those top 10 will be screened at the Competition event.
The best film will receive the Tareque Masud Young Filmmaker Award and a cash prize. The top six films will receive scholarships to study filmmaking, three at the Bangladesh Film Institute (BFI) and three at Moviyana Film Society’s film course at Shilpakala.
The speakers of the awards ceremony of the Short Film Competition will be Nijera Kori Coordinator Khushi Kabir, human rights lawyer Sara Hossain, TMMT Chairperson Catherine Masud and other special guests. Liyaqat Ali Lucky, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will preside over the occasion.
In addition to the main programme on Sunday, on 12 March, noted film scholar Biren Das Sharma, Associate Professor of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata will present the Tareque Masud Memorial Lecture. The theme of this year’s lecture will be ‘Hollywood’s Orientalism.’
The lecture will take place at 6:00pm in the 6th Floor, Seminar Hall of National Theatre Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
