Chirkutt first Bangladeshi band to participate in SXSW

Dhaka: Chirkutt is the first Bangladeshi band to ever participate in The South by Southwest ( SXSW) in the course of the 30-year history of festival of film and music featuring more than 2,000 bands where US President Barack Obama delivered keynote speech about SXSW Austin 2016, reports a local news agency.
They (Chirkutt) expressed their feeling in verified Facebook page Chirkutt is honoured to be the first Bangladeshi band to ever participate at SXSW in the course of the 30-year history of this amazing global festival of film and music featuring more than 2,000 bands. This is a great and historic milestone for the music scene of Bangladesh, and we hope to take this even higher in the future.’
They also performed at ‘Spreeha’ presents-Concert for Bangladesh’ at MacArthur High School of Texas of the USA for the helpless child which was the pre SXSW concert for the proud Bangladeshi community in Austin

Chirkutt is not a new band by any means, having been around since 2002.
This band was awarded the RTV Best Band Award in 2012.
Its fame has transcended the borders of Bangladesh and reached foreign shores to their performances at various reputed international music festivals, such as the India Music Week where 50 bands/Artists of 17 countries participated and the Jaffna Music Festival, Sri Lanka (Norway, Brazil, Palestine, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, with more than twenty international artists where they have represented new dimensions of Bangladeshi band music to critical acclaim.
This band is comprised of Pavel Areen (Drums, Percussion, Sound producer), Emon Chowdhury ( Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Ukulele) Sharmin Sultana Sumi (vocals, lyrics), Pintu Ghosh (vocals, violin, flute) and Rokon Emon (bass).
Guest rhythm guitarist Tamal also serves as a session musician for the band from time to time.
Chirkutt has already released two albums, ‘Chirkuttnama’ and ‘Jadu’r Shohor’.
Chirkutt second album ‘Jadu’r Shohor’ (‘The City of magic’), a fresh collection of eclectic melodies, has already stolen the hearts of thousands of music lovers only weeks after its release, and the title song ‘Jadu’r Shohor’ has become a bona fide hit.
Their debut album ‘Chirkuttnama’ was released in October 2010.
Chirkutt’s songs have received a great deal of airplay, and they have also performed on televised drama and film soundtracks.
