Brihannala loses nat’l award for plagiarism
Dhaka: Nearly two weeks after the movie received awards in three categories in the National Film Award 2014, the government on Sunday revoked the honour of ‘Brihannala’ as the plot of the movie was plagiarised.
Information Ministry deputy secretary GM Nazmul Hossain Khan said the honour of the film was revoked for plagiarism.
Based on an allegation that the story of the movie, directed and produced by Murad Parvez, was copied without the permission of the writer, the ministry launched an investigation into it.
The allegation was found to be true after investigation, Nazmul added.
The ministry will now take legal actions against the director of the movie and others, he said.
Earlier on April 4, Brihannala, a feature film based on a short story written by Syed Mustafa Siraj titled ‘Gaach-ta Bolechilo’ (The tree had told), was awarded as the best movie.
It also received awards in the best storyline and best dialogue categories.
