Pay more attention to developing film industry: Kobori

Dhaka: Expressing regret over the inaction of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation prominent actress Sarah Begum Kobori said on Monday that the authorities should pay more attention to developing the film industry.

She made the remarks in a two-day-long 'Asian Film Festival 2016' which kicked off at the auditorium of the Teachers-Students Center (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU), reports UNB.

She shared her experience of working in the film industry in the program. She said ‘Our films should go a long way. But some hindrance stopped our journey. Such festivals will help the work go ahead.’

MCJ Film Club, an organization run by the students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of the university, arranged the festival.

DU vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony which was presided over by professor Mofizur Rhaman, chairman of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department.

Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique said that films can play a vital role to eradicate the militancy and terrorism. It is very necessary to make good films to protest against any injustice in the world.

Noted filmmakers Morshedul Islam, Ferdous Ahmed and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki were present as special guests at the inauguration programme.

House of Flying Daggers (China), Three Iron (South Korea) and PK (India) were screened on the first day at 1:30pm, 4:00pm and 6:30pm respectively.

On the second day, In the Mood for Love (Hong Kong) will be shown at 11:00am while A Separation (Iran) at 1:30pm, Spirited Away (Japan) at 4:00pm and Runway (Bangladesh) at 6:30pm.

Film lovers can enjoy the films by purchasing tickets at Tk 20 each which will be available at TSC gate.
