Dhaka: People are thronging movie houses in Dhaka city to watch ‘Aynabaji’, a political satire thriller, for the second consecutive week as the movie has managed to generate positive reviews among critics as well as the audience.

People from all walks of life have been rushing to the movie houses, a trend that had vanished after the after the 90s, to enjoy the film with friends, colleagues, teachers, students and even with family members.

Saif Sayan, a student of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB) watched twice in a week after its release.

Saif had to purchase tickets from the black market as all tickets were sold out within 10 minutes of the sale at the counter.

This UNB correspondent also witnessed a huge crowd in the cinema halls of the city on Friday to watch ‘Ayanabaji’.

Debutant director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury along with his team was paying surprise visits to the movie houses to observe the feedback and response of the audience.

Talking to reporters after a show at Jamuna Blockbuster on Tuesday last, Amitabh said, ‘It was a different kind of feeling. The people of our country are very emotional. They get happy with very little things. We tried to narrate the story in a very simple way but the response is extraordinary.’

Script writer Gousul Alam said, ‘I burst into tears to see people’s response. People didn’t consider it as Indian Bangla film or joint venture…they considered it as their film.’

Media personality Dr Abdun Noor Tushar said the powerful side of the movie is the simple storytelling with appropriate performances.

The shooting of the film officially began in February 2015 and ended in August 2015.

The entire film was shot in Dhaka.

The film, produced by Gousul Alam under the banner of Content Matters Production, was released on September 30 last.

Prominent actor Chanchal Chowdhury and Masuma Rahman Nabila played the lead roles in the story.
