World premiere of Bangladeshi short film in France
Bangladeshi short film ‘Kobi Swamir Mrityur Por Amar Jobanbondi’ — written and directed by Tasmiah Afrin Mou and produced by Rubaiyat Hossain has been selected for the International Competition of the 34th Festival Tous Courts.
The film will have its world premiere at the festival, says a press release.
Also known as Aix-en-Provence International Short Film Festival, the Festival Tous Courts will be held from November 28 to December 3, 2016 in Aix-en-Provence, France. Recognised as category 1 festival by the National Film Centre and the Moving Image (CNC), it is one of the major international cinematographic event for short films. Well known for revealing new talents (François Ozon, Laurent Cantet, Delphine Gleize), the event offers an important short film competition and a market for new productions made by contemporary young filmmakers.
As mentioned in the press release, after viewing more than 2500 movies by the selection committee, 80 films from 26 countries are selected this year for the various sections in International Competition and the Experimental Competition.
Tasmiah Afrin Mou’s debut narrative short film ‘Kobi Swamir Mrityur Por Amar Jobanbondi’ or ‘Confession after My Poet Husband’s Death’ portrays the emotions of a recently widowed woman who is having a feeling of deliverance after the death of her poet husband.
Mou has directed a handful of Documentary films for television and among them is Tokai-2012 that received the Best Short Documentary Award at Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, China in 2014. She is also known as a writer. Her book of stories Baksha Bondi was published in 2015.
The cast of the film includes Dilruba Hossain Doyel, Ali Ahsan, Maria, Raita and Irin Parvin. National award winning editor and sound desginer Sujan Mahmud is the editor and sound designer of the film, and Imranul Islam is the director of photography. The film is a production of Khona Talkies.
