Dhaka: Bangladesh actress Sarah Begum Kabori’s autobiography titled ‘Smriti Tuku Thaak’ was launched at the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela on Saturday.

Kobori Sarwar who was born on July 9, 1950 is a leading Bangladeshi film actress, ruling the country’s silver screen for decades as the premier actress. She presented her memoirs for her fans.

The book brought by Bdnews24 Publishing Limited (bpl) was launched on Saturday during a ceremony at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair attended by the cinema idol.

The unannounced attendance of Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon at the programme only reminded people of the popularity of the actress.

The former Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) vice-president Menon, a student leader of the 60s, said that Kabori was the heartthrob of their time. He still bears her memories.

Kabori said that she had nothing say. She added ‘You know what is going through my mind. I know that my viewers, audience, who love me, know the words in my mind.’  

Kabori requested all to buy her book to know of certain unknown facts related to her life. The memoirs promise to be revealing.

The talented artiste said ‘You can't learn anything without reading books. Books can take you beautiful places and help you pass the time; it relieves you of your sorrows, teaches many new things.’ 

Sarwar acted in several movies with Farooque in 1970s. She also performed with Bulbul Ahmed in Devdas. She acted another important role in Titash Ekti Nadir Naam directed by Ritwik Ghatak, an Indian filmmaker. She also acted in an Urdu film Bahana by Zahir Raihan with co-actor Rahman.

The book also contains some rare photographs of the legendary actress coupled with a number of anecdotes she relates about her life and career.

Sarwar stepped into the field of cinema as an amateur artist at the age of 13. Kabori acted in her first film, Shutorang, in 1964 under Subhash Dutta's direction, and coincidentally after 40 years, in 2004, Subhash Dutta acted in the movie Aaina under Kabori's direction.

Sarwar also worked with actors like Razzak, Alamgir, Sohel Rana, Ujjal, Wasim, Khan Ataur Rahman, Golam Mustafa, Anwar Hossain and A.T.M. Shamsuzzaman.

In 2006, Aina, the first film she directed, hit the screen. Of late, Kabori has been serving as a guest lecturer at a university.
