Bandarban: Ending their insurgency, some 79 members of Mro National Party (MNP), an armed group, returned to normal life on Thursday after surrendering arms to the government.

The MNP members surrendered their arms in two groups—one led by Menrum Mro and the other by Luhuf Mro—to the commander of Kurmukpata Army camp in Alikadam upazila through a ceremony.

The surrender was mediated by the Mro Social Council, a social organisation of the Mro community.

After the formal surrender, Menrum Mro told reporters that his group members handed over 62 sets of uniforms, 48 guns, five locally made pistols and 89 bullets to the army.

The members of Luhuf Mro’s group handed over 14 sets of uniforms, 13 guns and 11 bullets, he added.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur attended the programme as the chief guest.
