Dhaka: The Embassy of Denmark in Dhaka has brought an exciting opportunity for a young Bangladeshi woman to become a ‘Shadow Ambassador’ for a day at the joint new Nordic Embassy.

The initiative has been taken to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2016. The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality’.  

Women, who want to take the chance, will have to answer a few questions and one of them could be on her way to the Nordic Embassy building to spend an action-packed day with Danish Ambassador Hanne Fugl Eskjaer.

The Danish Embassy in Dhaka described the completion as an ‘amazing chance’ to get first-hand experience on life as a diplomat, according to the embassy’s official Facebook page.  

The selected person will discover how a real life embassy operates and how politics, development and trade come together in a truly international environment.

Interested candidates are requested to send an email to dacamb@um.dk by 20 February with the requirements - full name, address, mobile number, email, date of birth, national ID number, level of education and languages spoken.

And then the applicants will have to answer three questions (in no more than 75 words each) - what learning do you expect to get by being shadow ambassador for a day, what are the key challenges for young women in Bangladesh and what is needed to overcome them and if you were an Ambassador for Bangladesh to Denmark, how would you promote Bangladesh?

The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March during International Women’s Year 1975.  

Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States, in accordance with their historical and national traditions.
