Dhaka: The International Women’s Day will be observed in the country on Tuesday as elsewhere across the world with a call for taking pragmatic actions to accelerate gender parity.

The theme of this year’s day is ‘Pledge For Parity’.

Various organisations, including the Women and Children Affairs Ministry, have chalked out various programmes like rally, exhibition, discussion, procession and campaign to mark the day.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have issued separate messages on the occasion.

In his message, the President said the womenfolk alongside their male counterparts have been playing an important role in creative and development activities as partners of all developments and progresses since the beginning of civilisation.

He urged all -- men and women -- to make relentless efforts to build digital Bangladesh, which will be happy and prosperous, and free from poverty, by ensuring women empowerment, equity and equal rights and women participation in the mainstream of the national development.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, recalled the contributions of those who had played a pioneering role both at home and abroad, and whose dedications and sacrifices advanced a lot the struggle for establishing equal rights and status of women.

She called upon all to come forward to build an equitable world to ensure women’s equal rights, empowerment, status and human rights.

In her message, the BNP chairperson urged all to remain aware so that women are not neglected, subjected to repression and suppression and deprived of their basic rights.
