Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Sunday said adequate relief materials and cash have been sent for the flood victims in 11 northern districts of the country.

‘A total of 2,300 tonnes of rice and dry food worth Taka 45 lakh have been sent to the affected areas. Besides, 4,000 cartons of dry food and equipment have also been sent to those areas,’ he said while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop held in the city on ‘cyclone preparedness and risk reduction’.

Senior officials from the ministry, academicians, representatives from international humanitarian agencies and local research organizations joined the workshop, organized for selected people from the coastal areas.

Maya said the government has enough food stock to run full relief operations under any disastrous condition and a sufficient amount of food has been allocated for each district before they put their demands. In addition, he said, Taka five crore and 6,000 tonnes of food grains have been allocated for the Disaster Management Directorate.

The minister said the government has been keeping a close eye on flood situation and monitoring its development round-the-clock. Flood monitoring cells have been opened up with the line ministry, concerned department and at district levels for better flood information exchange and relief coordination, he added.

He also instructed field level relief officials and workers to ensure smooth supply of relief materials on time and their proper distribution accordingly among the victims.
