Gazipur: Readymade garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail Highway for about an hour following rumour of the death of a fellow worker in a road accident in Konabari area of Gazipur on Sunday morning.

The Konabari Highway Police Officer-in-charge (OC) Hosain Sarkar said Monti, a worker of Design Text Factory, suffered injuries as a human hauler ran over her at about 8:30am in the area.

She was taken to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, a rumour spread around that Monti was killed in the accident.

Soon her fellow workers took to the street and put barricade on the highway, snapping vehicular movement for one hour.

The agitated workers also set fire on the human hauler and vandalised some vehicles.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Traffic on the highway resumed at about 9:30am.
