CNG filling station owners withdraw strike
Dhaka: Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners’ Association has called off their strike scheduled for Sunday following assurance from the authorities concerned that their demands will be met.
Association general secretary Farhan Noor Bhuiyan said they decided to withdraw their scheduled strike after a fruitful meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authorities (BRTA) on Saturday.
The association made the announcement of the strike at a press conference on Wednesday.
Their demands are cancellation of high charges for land by Roads and Highways department, withdrawal of the proposal to increase the price of gas and implementation of the recommendations made by the Energy Ministry.
A CNG filling station had to pay its annual rent for leasing the land, an amount TK 52,560 before imposing new rule on 22 October in 2015. According to rescheduled rate by Road and Highways Department, it will have to pay TK 11,28,682 which is 22 times higher than the regular price. The rate has been raised in metropolitan areas by almost 188 times.
Some 500 filling stations have been set up across the country since 2000 investing TK 3500 crore.
